How to seal plywood flooring? | Boat Design Net.Hey there guys. I'm completely new to this boat wood building thing so please bear with me. The boar in question is actually an inflatable boat that I want to create a wooden floor for. The floor will not really come in contact with with only from splashes and maybe our boots. The flooring will also be carpeted with marine grade carpet. I was wondering how do I water proof the flooring from the splashes and what not? I was considering using a fiberglass resin coat.

Plywood waterproofing | Boat Design Net.I picked up a "Mini Max" sea flea,(see www.svensons.com ) that has been mostly completed, for my grandkids. It just needs the steering wheel mount and coaming installed. The problem is that the boat is made out of regular (non-marine) plywood. I figure I'll have to remove the deck to get in at the inside of the hull. I'm looking for suggestions on how to treat all of the wood to make it water proof and allow me to then fiberglass and paint it. I know that I could just paint it ...

Questions: Plywood boatbuilding - Glen-L.Q: Must all plywood used for boatbuilding be waterproof? A: Basically there are three plywood grades; Interior, Exterior, and Marine. The typical assumption is that plywood used in boats must be made with waterproof glue. However, the accepted standard for such a glue is one whose bonds will survive a boil test. How many boats are ever subjected to boiling water conditions? None I know of. Fact is, for generations, countless plywood boats have been glued together successfully ...

Protecting Plywood with Polyester Resin | Boat Design Net.Polyester resins are not necessarily the best choice for waterproofing plywood, marine or otherwise. Epoxy is a much better, but more expensive, option. How and what to glass depends on the span the plywood will gap and the amount of flex you're willing to accept. If the span is short and you only want to protect the edges then taping them should be good enough. If the span is large you should consider glassing the entire panel, both sides, to gain strength.

How to Seal Marine Plywood | DoItYourself.com.If you have a boat or are planning on building something that will be submerged in water, then marine plywood is what you'll be working with. This type is a thicker material than regular plywood, comprised of about seven to 10 layers as opposed to three to five, with glue locking them all together. Waterproofing Wood.I took a scrap of B-C marine grade plywood (that's what the lumber yard sells as A-B grade, is actually a B-C grade specification - go figure) I applied the name brand wood sealant according to instructions on one half, and my waterproofing secret sauce on the other half. Once dried, I sprinkled water droplets on both halfs. Guess what I observed.
